Boat Building - Trimaran Boat
Boat Building - Trimaran
I really like boat so I designed and constructed another power boat, a 12-footer trimaran. The boat was powered by 15hp Johnson outboard and it has a maximum speed of 22 knots, fair enough.
Design Considerations
My 20-footer Mariah speedboat is not easy to launch so it becomes impractical to launch it when we’re just fishing for nemo’s. So the design considerations are:
- a boat that will not require a trailer and can be loaded on the pick-up truck
- it should be narrow but stable
- it should be light enough and can easily be loaded and unloaded to the truck by 2 persons
- it can handle my spare 15hp Johnson outboard
and so the F-12 trimaran was born.

I designed the boat myself with the help of AutoCad14. It is flat buttom so less HP will be needed in planning the boat. I designed a stainless steel bracket that will attach the outrigger to the hull using stainless bolt and nut making it detachable and can easily be loaded to the pick-up truck.
Below is the author and helper connecting the outrigger to the main hull.
We installed the outboard engine and see if the boat will move forward or backward.
And thanks, the boat is moving forward at 22knots (full throttle) and very stable.
