Biasong for WiFi Set-up

Published by edcoraza

On December 18, 2007, I met a good friend on the web, Mr. Chip Nutall, a physician assistant and is very interested on Information technology. He is asking for technical assistance on how to get a fast internet connection in Pilar, Camotes area. When I learned that he is about to settle down in Pilar for good and one of his projects is to help the youth in Camotes to access online courses through the internet, I volunteer to help in setting up a fast internet connection. One of our option is to extend a broadband internet connection from Isabel, Leyte to Barangay Biasong, a mountain Barangay in the town of Pilar and set-up a WiFi system to distribute the internet connection to the neighboring barangays.

During our Christmas vacation in Cawit, I personally met him and we went to Barangay Biasong to conduct site inspection.

Barangay Biasong is a very nice place, peaceful, elevated and has a clear view to the neigboring island of Poro, San Francisco and Leyte. The nice thing about Biasong is - it has a line of site to our communication tower in Isabel, Leyte, the source of the broadband internet connection.

By the way, Barangay Biasong can be reached through the barangay road in Barangay Lanao (at the intersection beside the ancestral house of the Angus family) and there’s also another barangay road in Barangay Moabog. Some of the improvements that I have noticed in the area is the concrete road on some portion of their barangay road and the car battery charger station powered by solar panels and small wind turbine installed by the University of San Carlos and funded by a German NGO. A big help to the locals before the commercial power supply was installed in the area.
