MB Stingray 1

Published by edcoraza

One afternoon, I got a call from my father-in-law, Mr. Romanito “Romy” Pilota, a 3 termer councilor of the Municipality of Pilar. He was asking our assistance for his boat building project. His plan was to build a passenger and cargo boat that would ferry our fellow Camotesians and their goods to Ormoc and Baybay City in Leyte.

Because of my passion in boats and my willingness to help my fellow Camotesians, I agree with the idea. So we built a 60-footer banca with a setting capacity of 80 passengers, a little bit smaller compared to other passenger banca in Camotes Island. The idea is to make use of smaller engine to save on fuel consumption. We put in two engines, the main engine is a truck engine, mitsubishi 6D14 rated at 165HP and the back-up engine is another truck engine, mitsubishi 4DR5 rated at 80HP. It has a speed of around 14 knots.

We named the boat after my amateur radio fancy call-sign, STINGRAY.
